Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association

The state of Iowa has a long history of contributions to the world of Rock 'n Roll. It all began in the late 1950s when the genre was in its infancy. As teenagers embraced "their music," forward-thinking adults recognized the developing trend and helped pioneer that which was not to be denied. Radio stations began playing the new music, the grand ballrooms and road houses that dotted the state began staging teen hops and nearly every town in the state boasted at least one Rock 'n Roll band.

The Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association (IRRMA) was created in 1997 to retain and honor the legacy of Iowa Rock 'n Roll and preserve its history. Today IRRMA boasts a free statewide educational program that takes the history and music to Iowa's young in their schools, churches and youth groups. IRRMA sponsors Rock 'n Roll entertainment at venues throughout the state. Each Labor Day weekend it honors the bands, musicians, radio stations, ballrooms, music stores and individuals who have made significant contributions to Rock 'n Roll by inducting them into its Hall of Fame.
